While most childhood respiratory illnesses are managed by pediatricians, pediatric surgeons get involved when conditions need surgical intervention or when a congenital issue affects breathing. We have expertise in both the chest wall and the upper airways.
We handle conditions like chest wall deformities, such as pectus excavatum or "sunken chest." These can sometimes limit lung capacity and lead to cardiopulmonary symptoms. We also deal with surgical aspects of airway problems, including removing foreign objects that have been inhaled into the trachea or bronchi, and repairing congenital pulmonary airway malformations (CPAM) in the lungs.
Working with pulmonologists and intensivists, we also place tracheostomy tubes when children need long-term breathing support. Our goal is to surgically fix structural problems, improve respiratory function, and ensure a clear, safe airway, allowing your child to breathe easily and thrive.
